Founder's Circle Memorial 

Since 1930, thirty-seven volunteer firefighters have been killed in the line of duty in the in  Prince George's County

    October 25, 1930  B.Wesley Cranford, Marlboro VFD was killed when the fire truck he was on overturned while responding on a fire call.

September 1 1937 Clarence Johnson, Bladensburg VFD (no information )    

April 1, 1944 Robert Lohman, Bladensburg (no information)

March 25 1945 Volunteer Fire Chief Clinton D. Walker died from a heart attack after becoming sick while responding on a ran

 November 13,1945 Jesse Lovejoy, Berwyn Heights was killed on the scene of an auto accident when he stepped on a live wire.

January 21, 1949  John Hamer, Landover Hills (no information )    

October 21, 1953  Wm. R. Stainback and John T. Streets, Hyattsville VFD was killed when a truck hit the ladder truck they were on while returning from a fire call.

July 12, 1956 John H. Leyh, Berwyn Heights VFD was killed when he lost control of his car and hit a tree

 September 10, 1958 Volunteer Fire Chief  Wm.H.Wells, District Heights  VFD (no information )    

 November 30, 1959  James A. Melton, Branchville VFD died from a heart attack while on the fire ground of a house fire

May 14, 1960  Gerald Britton, Riverdale Heights VFD (no information )    

November 12, 1963 Dennis M. Boswell , Tuxedo Cheverly VFD was killed on the fire ground at  64th & Sheriff Rd when a drink driver hit him

 June 6, 1967 P.E. Tierney, Boulevard Heights VFD died from a a heart attack while on the fire ground of a house fire

March 16th 1988 Alan P. Sondej Hyattsville VFD died from injuries he suffered from a house fire

August 10, 1969 R.J. Harmon, Jr. and C.R. Hobstetter, Chillum-Adelphi VFD lose their lives when attempting a water rescue

October 23, 1971  Richard L. Whittington and James M. Herbert, Clinton VFD was killed when the fire truck they were on overturned.

 August 6, 1972  Charles R.Hoffman, Tuxedo-Cheverly VFD was killed after he fell from a tree

December 11, 1972 George Duvall, III, Cottage City VFD died from injures he suffered on November 11 when the rescue squad he was on was hit by a train

 July 10, 1973  Dennis M. Mandragos, Mark W. Van Tassel and Richard W. Myers Baden VFD was killed when the ambulance they were riding on collided with a Baden fire truck on a sharp curve.

 June 15, 1978  James M. O'Conner, Marlboro VFD died from injuries from a departmental accident on Route 301

 April 16, 1980 Thomas L. Graves, Sr, West Lanham Hills died from injuries after a wall collapsed on him while operating on a gas explosion on Good Luck Road

September 12, 1983 Michael P.McCarthy, Morningside was killed in the line of duty at a house fire in Morningside

January 29, 1989   James G.Yvorra, Berwyn Heights VFD was killed after being hit by a car on the Baltimore/Washington Parkway at an accident scene

 January 12, 1992  Kenneth M. Hedrick, Morningside VFD killed in the line of duty at a house fire in Morningside

March 2, 1996  Leonardo Maguigad, Allentown Road VFD died from a heart attack while on duty

 September 25, 2001 Clarence Kritzer, Bowie VFD died from a heart attack while on duty

 December 1, 2003   ERT Nadar Hammedt was killed in an auto accident while attending a class, his death has been ruled a LODD
